At the beginning of April, Gigee Marie will be celebrating its one year anniversary. Time flies! There are a few goals that I wanted to accomplish for Gigee Marie before our one year anniversary, so for the last couple of months I've been working on a few new projects.

"This...Is...The Remix..."
Ok, that title is so cliche and cheesy...but I had to :-) If you follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you've seen a couple "new" pieces that I've been working on. I introduced my envelope style clutches with the Python Clutch and the Transparent Clutch, and you guys seem to love them. This style is actually my favorite so I've decided to remix some of the past and existing clutches and make them in the envelope style. The Amethyst, Teal, Gold, Camo (yes, the Camo Clutch will be making a comeback!), and Cognac clutches will all be available soon in the envelope style. And that black envelope clutch with the leopard print lining that I showed you here...yea, that will be added to the shop too :-) I hope you like!

Event Recap: Fashion Law Week [with a side of Louboutin]
Fashion Law Week is an annual event that was created by Howard University's Law School students, aimed at addressing legal issues in the fashion industry. This year's theme was Intelligent Design: Protecting the Luxury Brand.
I had the pleasure of attending the keynote presentation, given by Harley Lewin, an Intellectual Property lawyer known around the world for his IP protection work, specifically in the luxury apparel industry. Mr. Lewin is most recently known for winning the most significant IP case in the world in the past 10 years -- Louboutin vs. Yves St. Laurent. Some of his other clients include Diane von Furstenberg, Cartier, Alexander Wang, Dior, and Givenchy.
Although the
presentation was geared to an audience of legal professionals, there were
several good key takeaways that I thought could be applicable to entrepreneurs.

Stuff I Love: DIY Fashion
Lately I've really been into DIY fashion. Probably because Gigee Marie essentially started as a DIY experiment. There's nothing like adding your own personal touch to something and knowing that it's one-of-a-kind. And when money is tight, DIY fashion can be an inexpensive way to get that look for less. Event Recap: Crystal Couture
This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of participating in the 5th Annual Crystal Couture event, a five-day fashion show and trunk show that takes place in the Crystal City section of Arlington, Virginia, just outside of DC. Produced by the talented fashion event planner Maggy Francois and her team, nearly 70 boutiques, fashion and beauty brands, designers, stylists, and makeup artists gathered into what felt like a fab fashion warehouse. Attendees were able to watch runway shows as they shopped, sipped, and enjoyed free makeovers. Hosts of the event included radio personalities Sunni and Guy Lambert from WPGC 95.5, and Sarah Fraiser from Hot 99.5, as well as Miss DC 2011, Ashley Boalch. I met some really cool people, including a few Twitter and Instagram followers :-)

If you follow celebrity fashion, you're probably familiar with Olori Swank, the celebrity stylist known for her bold blue hair and edgy style. Olori regularly styles Keyshia Cole and Lance Gross, to name a few. So you know I was excited when Olori posted this pic of her rocking our Camo Clutch to her Instagram page back in January *does the running man*. Gigee Marie Muses: Precious Gems
With emerald being Pantone's color of 2013, I decided to center my Spring 2013 collection around jewel tones. A lot of times, jewel tones are seen in Fall collections, but I think that jewel tones are just as appropriate for Spring. They allow you to ease out of winter earthtones and prepare for colorful, bold Spring palettes. We recently saw Teyonah Parris and Mila Kunis rock bold amethyst and emerald gowns at the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes, and Eva Longoria werrrrrked this gold dress at the 2012 Alma Awards last September.

But, I don't mind them when they're in the form of soap. These handcrafted conversation heart soaps come in scents like pear, lemon cake, and red apple. While I don't advise eating these, I'm sure they taste better than the actual candy. *insert iPhone yuck face emoji*

No Valentine's Day is complete without a sweet dessert. For this, I turn to the famous Georgetown Cupcake, which has special flavors for the month of February, including Strawberry Lave Fudge, Strawberry Champagne, and Valentine's Vanilla. And don't worry if you live outside of the DC area...they ship anywhere in the US.
